Choosing the right fence height

When you’re installing a new fence, the height is your most important consideration. Here are some things to think about before you begin:

Do you like your neighbours?

If your neighbours are friendly folk, choose a lower fence. However if your neighbours are not to your liking, install a fence that’s high enough so you don’t have to look at them!

Do you live in a dodgy suburb?

Do criminals frequently try to rob you? If so, it would be wise to install a higher fence.

High fences are also good for situations where your land backs onto a public space, such as a park or a busy road.

The more secure your fence, the better it will be for keeping things in, as well. So if you have pets or kids, you will need to give careful consideration to the safety of your fence.

Do you want to add value to your home?

The aesthetic – i.e. the way your fence looks – can affect the value of your home. Chainwire fences might be cost effective, but they’re not the prettiest.

If you want a fence that looks fancy, your best options are glass or Merbau (a type of recycled timber). These fences will give your home a sophisticated aesthetic that could improve its value.
